Diogo da Silva

While permission was extended to Portugal to establish its tribunal, its operation was delayed. Diogo da Silva refused to accept his appointment. Many Conversos were kept informed of the proceedings in Rome. Some made preparations to flee. Conversos were hindered, however, by a law issued by King John on June 14, 1532, which made it illegal for them to leave the country.
